The Frank Patterson Stereoscopic Photographs contain scenic images of natural features within the Cascade Range and Columbia Gorge in both Oregon and Washington. Included are views of the Columbia River, mountains, lakes, rustic bridges, lava tubes and dams. Frank Patterson was a prolific photographer who worked in studios in Medford, Oregon and Santa Rosa and San Francisco, California during the 1920s-1950s.  The stereoscopic photographs were collected by Gerald W. Williams and were originally included with his general collection. Materials in English. Biographical Note:

Frank Patterson, born December 20, 1883 in Klickitat, Washington, was a prolific photographer of the West Coast in the 1910s through the 1930s, working at studios in Hood River, Oregon and later Medford, Oregon and San Francisco, California. He married his first wife, Cora, on February 16, 1907, with whom he had three daughters. Frank and Cora divorced on September 7, 1921, after which Frank moved from Hood River to Medford, Oregon where he opened a photography studio.  The photographs in this collection may be from the period when he lived in Hood River. He created the majority of his photographic postcards while he was in Medford. He married his second wife Josephine Champie on June 28, 1922. In 1928 Frank moved to Santa Rosa, California. In 1940 he was sentenced to San Quentin for twelve years and served six, after which he worked for Bear Photo in San Francisco until 1959. He  died in 1961.

These materials were acquired from Gerald W. Williams by the former University Archives and the Special Collections and Archives Research Center in the original accession in 2007 and subsequent accessions in 2009 and 2012. They were originally described as a component of the Gerald W. Williams Collection (MSS WilliamsG) and were separated for description as this collection in 2016.

The Frank Patterson Stereoscopic Photographs collection consists of 45 black and white stereoscopic images depicting natural features within the Cascade Range and Columbia Gorge in both Oregon and Washington. All of the stereoscopic photographs are undated and appear to date from the 1910s. Represented within the collection are scenic views of Mt. Hood, Mt. Adams and Mt. Rainier in Oregon, Trout Lake  (Washington) and nearby lava flumes, and  Oregon's Latourelle Falls and cave, and Oneonta Falls. Also included are  views of the Columbia River, mountains, lakes, rustic bridges, lava tubes (referred to as flumes) and dams.

 Series 1 Stereoscopic Photographs 1911-1920

This single series consists of depicting natural features within the Cascade Range and Columbia Gorge in both Oregon and Washington. Images include scenic views of Mt. Hood in Oregon, Mt. Adams and Mt. Rainier in Washington, the Columbia River, Trout Lake (Washington) and nearby lava flumes, Oregon's Latourelle Falls and cave, Oneonta Falls, mountains, lakes, rustic bridges, lava flumes and dams. Extent: 45 black and white stereoscopic images, including 1 partial stereoscope.
