      <abstract encodinganalog="5203_">Emily Jean Crimson Thatcher was a musician and teacher who married George Washington Thatcher, a grandson of Brigham Young, in 1892. The Jean C. Thatcher Family photograph collection contains portraits of the Thatcher and Crimson families, their relatives, and friends.</abstract>

    <bioghist encodinganalog="5450_">
      <p>Emily Jean Crimson Thatcher (1868-1960) was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on December 15, 1868, to George C. and Mary Louisa Tanner Crimson. She attended Brigham Young College in Logan, Utah, and then studied music in Boston and New York City. On February 18, 1892, she married George Washington Thatcher (1866-1950); together, the couple had one daughter, Patience. Emily Jean C. Thatcher worked as librarian for Brigham Young College. She also taught pianoforte, and was a member of the Tabernacle Choir. Her husband, George, was also a musician who specialized in voice and cello; he served as head of the music department at Utah State Agricultural College (now Utah State University). In addition to her work as a musician and teacher, Thatcher was a member of the Utah State Agriculture College Women's Faculty and served as president of the Utah State Agriculture College Woman's Club. Emily Jean Crimson Thatcher died on November 22, 1960.</p>

      <p>The Jean C. Thatcher Family photograph collection consists of 2 boxes. Box 1 contains 129 portraits of the Thatcher and Crimson families and their relatives and friends. Box 2 is oversized and contains 3 oversized portraits of the Thatcher family. The collection spans from 1897 to 1934.</p>
