Its purpose was to raise troops and supplies for the Union army. Collection consists of a record book containing constitution, by-laws, member list, and minutes of the Grand Council of the Union League of America for the State of Oregon, December 14, 1863-April 29, 1864; also the Multnomah Council of the Union League of the State of Oregon, No. 2, December 28, 1863-May 3, 1864.</abstract>

      <p>The Union League of America, sometimes called the Loyal League, was a Civil War era pro-Union club. It was formed in Ohio in 1862 when the prognosis for Union victory seemed doubtful. Its purpose was to raise troops and supplies for the Union army. After the war it worked for radical punishment of the rebel leaders and suffrage for people freed from enslavement.</p>
