The Edith Whitelock Lowe Collection is comprised of two scrapbooks assembled by alumna Edith Whitelock Lowe as well as a photograph, a class list, and correspondence. This collection documents Lowe's student experience at Oregon Agricultural College, an example of her work in high school, Lowe's participation in an OAC class reunion, and news of her death in 1989. Lowe graduated from OAC in 1924 with a degree in home economics.
Biographical Note:
Born on September 24, 1901 in Ontario, Canada, Edith Whitelock moved to Oregon as a child and resided in Portland, where she attended Jefferson High School. Edith entered Oregon Agricultural College in the fall of 1920 and was actively engaged in campus life, serving on the Beaver Yearbook staff and as social secretary of the Acticon Club of the Snell Hall Dormitory. She graduated from OAC in 1924 with a bachelor's degree in Home Economics. After a brief stint as a high school teacher in Toledo, Oregon, Edith moved to Los Angeles, California in 1925 and worked there as a high school art school until her marriage to Hugh D. Lowe in the 1930s. She died in 1989.

These materials were transferred to the University Archives in 1996 by Bette-Jean Black, Edith Whitelock Lowe's niece.
This finding aid was prepared under remote working conditions in 2020 without access to the original collection. Consequently the number of photographs in the collection could not be determined by the finding aid author and is not included in this finding aid.

One of the scrapbooks contains photographs and other items reflecting Lowe's student experience at Oregon Agricultural College. The other scrapbook pertains to Oregon counties and was assembled by Lowe as a high school student. The photograph and class list document Lowe's attendance of a fifty year reunion of the OAC Class of 1924. The correspondence concerns the subject of Lowe's passing in 1989. There is also a photocopy of Lowe's diploma from OAC.
