Lucy May Van Cott (1869-1957) was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on 1869 May 05 to Laura Petrine Christine Lund and John Van Cott. She attended the University of Utah on a scholarship and became a teacher, and eventually a grade school principal. Van Cott was the first Dean of Women at the University of Utah, where she served for 24 years (1907-1931). During this time, Van Cott was considered a foster mother to students, and sponsored many programs to help needy students, such as establishing the first cafeteria at the university and raising funds for a girls' dormitory. She was also a member of the American National Red Cross and the Emeritus Club Alumni Association. Lucy May Van Cott died on 1957 September 28.
