         <abstract encodinganalog="5203_"> Dr. Kassebaum was a trained cardiologist whose
            thirty-year career (1956-1986) went from Intern to Director of OHSU Hospital and Vice
            President of Hospital Affairs. A wide variety of material illustrates his varied
            career.</abstract>

      <bioghist encodinganalog="545">

         <p>Dr. Kassebaum (d. October 12, 2012) was trained at UOMS Hospital and Clinics, and the VA
            Hospital, Portland. He was a clinical fellow in the Division of Cardiology UOMS and a
            Senior Vice President of the Division of Medical School Standards and Assessment,
            Association of American Medical Colleges in Washington D.C., the AAMC, Liasison
            Committee on Medical Education. He was also the Senior Associate Editor of Academic
            Medicine. After serving as the Director of Health Policy Study, School of Medcine,
            Oregon Health Sciences Univerity, vice president for Hospital Affairs and Director of
            the OHSU Hopsital, Chief of Medical Services at the University of Oregon Medical School
            Hospital.</p>
         <p>Kassebaum's CV lists publications dating from 1960-2000, ranging in topic from
            cardiology to medical and nursing education. He was licensed to practice medicine in the
            states of Oklahoma (1986) and Oregon (1957). His list of memberships in professional
            societies and organizations and appointments to community, state and national service
            organizations is long and impressive. He recieved honors in teaching and many grant
            awards as a principal investigator from the Oregon Heart Association, the National Heart
            Institute and the National Heart and Lung Association. He received his professional
            training from the University of Oregon Medical School Hospitals and Clinics as an intern
            (1956-57), served his residency with the VA hospital, Portland (1957-58), completed a
            residency, UOMS (1959-60); he was a Clinical Fellow, UOMS (1959-1960), and Senior
            Research Fellow, UOMS (1960-62). He served as UOMS professor of medicine and associate
            and assistant professor of medicine in the UOMS Department of Cardiology and was the
            Director of the Cardiac Electrodiagnostic Laboratories at UOMS, and was Chief of Medical
            Services at the UOMS University Hospitals, also he was Vice President of Hospital
            Affairs and the Director of the Oregon Health Sciences University Hospital and finally
            served as the Director of Health Policy Study at OHSU. He resigned his post to take a
            position with the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center (1986). Until 1999 he
            served as Vice President of the Division of Medical School Standards and Assessment for
            the Association of American Medical Colleges, was secretary for the AAMC, and was
            responsible for the AAMC's protfolio on international health and medical education. He
            also participated professionally as the senior associate Editor for the Journal of
            Academic Medicine. </p>

         <p>The collection consists of the personal and professional papers of Donald G. Kassebaum,
            M.D. and includes reprints, correspondence, publications, reports, photographs,
            certificates, diplomas, licenses, curriculum vitae, biographical materials, and reports
            regarding his tenure at the University of Oregon Health and Sciences University and at
            the University of Oklahoma Medical Center.</p>
