Biography of William H. Carr

William Henry Carr (1902-1985) was an interpretive naturalist, outdoor museum conservator and author. From 1919-1944 he was a curator at the American Museum of Natural History in New York City, developing the use of living demonstration exhibits for outdoor museums. Carr retired from the Museum in 1944 due to poor health and settled in Tucson, Arizona, where he was a freelance writer. Along with Arthur Newton Pack (1893-1975), they founded the Ghost Ranch Museum in Abiquiu, New Mexico, in 1949 and the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum in Tucson, in 1952; both are outdoor, living-nature museums.
