            <abstract encodinganalog="5203_">The Oscar O. Mueller collection consists of positive
                photocopies of various documents held by the Lewistown Public Library in 1967. They
                include resources that Mueller used to compose his published historical writing and
                occasionally copies of those publications. Topics include: the history of Central
                Montana, especially in the Judith Basin and Lewistown areas, Winnett, Yellowstone
                National Park, the Battle of the Little Bighorn, vigilantes, the Fort Carroll Trail,
                and the Battle of the Bear’s Paw. People either mentioned or whose correspondence
                Mueller collected include: James Fergus, Charles M. Russell, E. C. “Teddy Blue”
                Abbott, W. E. “Limestone” Wilson, Luther S. “Yellowstone” Kelly, Charles C. Cook,
                David E. Folsom, Clifton B. Worthen, Charles Kuhlman, and E. A.

            <head>Biographical Note</head>
            <p>Oscar O. Mueller was born March 29, 1877 and moved to Lewistown, Montana after his
                graduation from the University of Iowa Law School in 1908. He worked as a county
                attorney, mayor, and city attorney while pursuing his avocational interest in
                historical research. His articles appeared in <title render="italic">Montana The
                    Magazine of Western History</title>, the <title render="italic">Great Falls
                    Tribun</title>e, and the <title render="italic">Lewistown Daily News</title>. He
                died on January 3, 1964.</p>

            <p>Original, transcribed, and published documents collected or created by Oscar O.
                Mueller were first given to the Lewistown Public Library in the early 1960s and
                temporarily loaned to Montana State University for photocopying in 1967. There is
                likely much duplication between this collection and materials Mueller donated to the
                Montana Historical Society and processed by them as Manuscript Collection 93. This
                collection has incorporated files formerly assigned collection numbers 762 and 764.
