		  typescript of "The Parthian" by Vic Hurley and related material</abstract></did><bioghist encodinganalog="5450_" id="a2"><p>Author, military historian, and U.S. Naval Reserve lieutenant
		  commander Gerald V. (Vic) Hurley was born in Springfield, Missouri, in 1898 and
		  attended the University of Washington, where he set records as a member of the
		  track team. He served in France during WWI and as a gunnery officer in the
		  Aleutians, an intelligence officer on Admiral Halsey's Joint Planning Board,
		  and a specialist on enemy bases in the Philippines during WWII. He also worked
		  as a coconut planter and an executive for a Goodyear rubber plantation in
		  Zamboanga on Mindanao Island in the Philippines. Hurley was the author of "The
		  Parthian" (which was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize), "Southeast of Zamboanga,"
		  "Men in Sun Helmets," "Swish of the Kris," "Jungle Patrol," and "Arrows Against
		  Steel." He lived for many years in Yakima, WA, and died in Lacey in 1978.</p></bioghist><scopecontent><p>Edited typescript of "The Parthian" by Vic Hurley, as well as
