1900-1905
Abram Jacob Thomas was born October 8, 1859 in Washington County,
Maryland to Mary C. Deaner and Josiah Thomas. He moved to Sacramento,
California in 1882 where he worked in a vineyard. Shortly after, Abram moved to
Woodland, California where he met his wife, Alice Sharpenack. They were married
on November 11, 1891 and had two children, Olo Vane Thomas (born November 4,
1892), and Althe J. Thomas (born October 22, 1894).
Abram Thomas visited the town of Davenport in Lincoln County,
Washington in 1887 (possibly to visit his brother, George W. Thomas, who lived
there until his death in 1940). He returned to Lincoln County again from
California to buy a farm in 1889; he rented this farm until he and his family
permanently moved to Lincoln County in 1901. Abram died on August 10, 1949 in
Davenport, Washington.
Collection of stereograph glass plate negatives and stereocards,
probably by Abram J. Thomas. They include photographs of Thomas's son Vane
Thomas, and brother George Thomas, circa 1901-1902. Photographs show two farms,
"Eastside" and "Westside", located near Davenport, Washington, and owned by
brothers Abram and George Thomas. Eighteen of the negatives have matching
stereocard prints made by the photographer.
The numbering of the items in the finding aid corresponds with the
numbers originally written on the items. Item 14 was missing, and so was
omitted from the finding aid.
