Clarence A. Svinth (1907-1987) served as the Director of the Washington State University Agricultural Extension Service until 1965. He was born in Lewis County, Washington and participated in 4-H programs in his youth. Svinth graduated with a Bachelor of Science from WSU in 1930 and immediately began working as an assistant county agent in King County, in charge of the 4-H program and poultry. He also served as the county agent of Thurston County, the state's county agent, and as the state's assistant director of Extension. As he progressed in his career, Svinth took a year off to pursue a Master's degree from Columbia University. He began work at WSU as the Director of Agricultural Extension in 1957. In 1963, he was chosen by fellow Extension directors to a national policy-making group, comprising two directors from each of the four geographical regions in the country. Svinth retired from WSU in 1965.
This collection consists of papers of C. A. Svinth, mostly speeches or statements related to international agricultural development projects, including his service as a Foreign Agricultural Service adviser to the Government of India (1952-1954).
