Gerald A. Jayne was a computer programmer at the Idaho National Laboratory in Idaho Falls,
Idaho and is considered to be one of the most famous conservation leaders in eastern Idaho.
Jayne has been an active conservationist since the 1960s and was instrumental in many
grassroots environmental causes. He was a founding member of the Hells Canyon Preservation
Council and served in several leadership roles in the 1960s and 1970s. He was asked to work
with Doris Milner, an officer in the Montana Wilderness Association, to set aside the
headwaters of the Selway River. Jayne was a founding member of the Idaho Environmental
Council and also served as its president and director for many years.
