Hap Klopp worked as the president and CEO of The North Face for 20 years after acquiring the brand from Glen and Arne Hiersoux in 1968. When Klopp started, there were only three stores — including locations in San Francisco, Berkeley, and Orinda — that initially focused on selling specialized gear for alpine skiing and mountaineering. Under his leadership, The North Face quickly grew and gained recognition for its innovative products, including durable jackets, tents, and backpacks. Klopp sold The North Face to Bill Simon's Odyssey International in 1988.
