Photographs of Alaska and other locations, related to
Pratt's work for the U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey
John Francis Pratt (1848-1929) was an officer of the U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey,
1871-1920, who engaged in surveys of Puget Sound, Admiralty Inlet, the Straits of
Juan de Fuca, and the Alaskan boundary; gave field service in the Hawaiian Islands,
1904-1905, California, 1906-1907, and the Philippine Islands, 1908-1911; and
commanded the Carnegie Institute survey ship Galilee in 1905.
Collections consists largely of photographs of Alaska, probably related to Pratt's
work for the U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey. Also includes photographs of the
Philippines, China, Italy, Dawson City, Vermont, Hawaii, California, New Mexico,
Virginia and West Virginia.

The prints in boxes 1-3 are open. Access to the the rest of the collection requires
