         <p>Chester Anders Fee was born and raised in Pendleton, Oregon, the son of Judge James Albert Fee and Rose Maney Fee. His book, "Chief Joseph: The Biography of a Great Indian" published in 1936, discusses the life of the Native American Chief Joseph, born in 1840 in the Wallowa Valley of Oregon, who was recognized for his leadership during the Nez Perce War of 1877.</p>
