      <abstract encodinganalog="5203_">The George S. and Algie E. Ballif photograph collection contains images of Algie Ballif. George S. Ballif was a Utah attorney who chiefly practiced in Provo. He also served as a city, county, and district attorney as well as a juvenile court judge. He was a member of the University of Utah Board of Regents. Algie E. Ballif was a member of the Provo Board of Education for twenty-three years and of the Utah House of Representatives from 1959 to 1961.

    <bioghist encodinganalog="545">
      <p>George Smith Ballif (1894-1977) was born to John L. and Emma Smith Ballif. He went on a mission to England for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church) in 1914, and served in the armed forces of the United States in Europe during World War I. He married Algie Eggertsen on 24 December 1920. He attended Brigham Young University and Harvard Law School before graduating from the University of California at Berkeley Law School in 1924. Ballif returned to Provo to practice law and served as city, county, and district attorney as well as Provo juvenile court judge. He was a member of the University of Utah Board of Regents and chaired the World Peace through Law Committee of the Utah Bar Association.</p>
      <p>Algie Eggertsen Ballif (1896-1984) was born to Lars E. and Annie N. Eggertsen. She graduated from Brigham Young University in 1918. A member of the Provo Board of Education for twenty-three years, Algie Ballif was named Utah "Man of the Year in Education" in 1958. She served in the Utah House of Representatives from 1959 to 1961, and was a member of the committee on education for John F. Kennedy's Presidential Commission on the Status of Women. She was active in many local and state organizations, including the Federated Women's Clubs, Women's Legislative Council, American Legion Auxiliary, and Sorosis.</p>
