			<p>Dr. William Willard (1926-2016) was a professor of Cultural Anthropology at
				Washington State University. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Arizona in
				1970. Willard began his career at WSU in 1977, directing the Native American Studies
				program and holding a joint appointment with the Department of Anthropology and the
				Department of Comparative American Cultures. Willard also served as Chair of the
				Comparative American Cultures program and was a founding editor for the Wicazo Sa
				Review.</p>

			<p>This collection contains papers of Dr. William Willard, a Professor of Anthropology
				and Comparative American Cultures at Washington State University, from 1968 to 2004.
				The collection primarily consists of materials related to his research on a variety
				of subjects, including United States policies for nuclear waste management in
				relation to its cultural, environmental, and economic impact on American Indian and
				migrant groups. The collection includes correspondence with officials at
				universities in the U.S. and Russia, representatives of American Indian tribes, and
				federal government offices. The collection also contains research files organized by
				subject, as well as copies of journals and magazines pertaining to American Indians,
				nuclear energy, and radiation contamination. Additionally, the collection includes
				photographs and other documentation of Willard's trip to St. Petersburg in 1992 with
				six other Washington State University professors to develop a public administration
				training program for local governments in Russia.</p>
