         <p>This collection consists of records of the Alliance for the Women's Commission and ERA, a Pullman, Washington based grass-roots advocacy organization. The records are mostly materials related to Referendum 40 (1977), about establishing a Washington State Women's Commission. The contents include press releases, meeting agendas, printed ephemera, and items related to the Washington State Women's Council (under the Office of the Governor).</p>

         <p>The Alliance for the Women's Commission and ERA was a Pullman, Washington based grass-roots advocacy organization. Its main purpose was to promote passage of the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) to the United States Constitution, and passage of Referendum 40 (1977), a state ballot measure about establishing a Washington State Women's Commission. The referendum failed.</p>
