Linda and Amy Faw gathered historical materials on the Faw and related families. This was
put in typescript form, photocopied, and distributed to family members in June 1955 as the
"Faw Family Record." It includes short biographical sketches produced by various family
members, transcripts of newspaper and magazine articles, correspondence, and unpublished
poetry and prose.

The correspondence consists of letters written to Amy and Linda Faw from 1939-55 in
connection with their research, as well as correspondence between various family members
from 1750-1954. They discuss family business and reflect the historical time period in which
they were written. Some of the unusual pieces include: a 1750 letter of Jacob Faw discussing
life in Colonial Virginia; an April 1862 account of the Battle of Shiloh by Confederate
Captain George Parkes Faw of the 29th Tennessee Infantry; a January 1863 account by
Condfederate soldier Robert Francis (27th North Carolina Regiment) of camp conditions near
Richmond, Virginia in the days following the Battle of Fredericksburg; several pieces which
discuss living conditions in Tennessee during the Civil War, as well as an 1866 letter
discussing Confederate guerilla warfare in East Tennessee.

The "Faw Family Record" was issued with correspondence interspersed throughout, and
biographical sketches arranged in a rough chronological order according to the various
branches of the family. The copy in the EWU archives has been left in its original order. It
is divided into twelve folders, with item numbers written on the back of each page. These
numbers make it possible to quickly locate individual items listed in the arrangement and
description. The arrangement and description also identifies each piece of correspondence by
