Nisga’a (Nisgha) is a Tsimshianic language of the Nisga’a people of
northwestern British Columbia. The ancestral lands of the Nisg̲a’a are in and
around the Nass River on the northern coast of British Columbia. The Nisg̲a’a,
Tsimshian, and Gitxsan are neighbors along the Skeena and Nass Rivers. In the
2018 Report on the Status of B.C. First Nations Languages, there were 311
fluent speakers and 294 active language learners reported in a population of
6,113.

Tape recorded field research in Nisgha, a Tsimshian language spoken in

(photocopies). Walsh worked with two different native speakers; Mrs. Bertha
Azak from New Aiyansh, British Columbia and Mrs. Dorothy Doolan from Canyon
City, British Columbia. Research data focuses primarily on phenomena, relating
to morphological structure.

collection.
