      <bioghist encodinganalog="5450_" id="a2" altrender="sync">
         <p>George Franklin Yantis was born at Olympia, Washington, on October 28,
		  1885. His father's family were covered-wagon pioneers. He was educated in
		  public schools in Olympia and graduated from the University of Wisconsin Law
		  School in 1913. He practiced law in Olympia from that date until his death.
		  Yantis was Prosecuting Attorney of Thurston County, 1915-1916; city attorney
		  for Olympia, 1932-1934; attorney for the Port of Olympia from 1922; and
		  attorney for PUD #1, Thurston County.</p>
         <p>His political career includes several terms as Washington State
		  Legislator, 1931-1933, 1935-1937, 1945; Speaker of the House for regular and
		  special sessions in 1933 and 1945. He served as a member of several
		  governmental research organizations; Northwest chairman for the National
		  Resources Committee, 1937-1939; member of the National Resources Planning Board
		  from 1939-1943.</p>
         <p>Mr. Yantis was a lifelong Democrat. He was a member of the State and
		  County Bar Associations as well as the Chamber of Commerce. Yantis died in
		  1947.</p>
