Rabbi Gedaliah Halpern (1864-1927) was born in Slonim, Russia, and attended the yeshivas of Volozhin and Slonim (both in present-day Belarus). As the first ordained Orthodox rabbi in the city of Seattle, Rabbi Halpern served at Congregation Bikur Cholim-Machzikay Hadath from 1905 until 1919, when he accepted a pulpit in Mount Vernon, New York. In 1913, Rabbi Halpern published the Hebrew work "Me Geve". Rabbi Halpern was the 18th-generation rabbi descending from Rabbi Yechiel Heilprin (1660-1746), author of Seder Hadoros.
