Washington and were avid amateur photographers. Their slides and photographs
were a part of innumerable international photography exhibitions, and they
received many awards and honors. The Photographic Society of America's
Photojournalist of the Year Award is known as the "Smith Award" in honor of
Charlotte and Dorothy Smith.
