      <head>Biographical Note</head>
      <p>Otto Schmidt was born in Minnesota in September of 1866. He was a
		  full- or part-time resident of Missoula, Montana, from at least 1890 to 1900
		  where he worked as an engineer with the Electric Light company. In both the
		  1910 and 1920 Census records, Schmidt is listed as living in Stevens County,
		  Washington, married to Mary A. with a son named Glen B. </p>
    </bioghist>
    <scopecontent encodinganalog="520">
      <p>This photograph album contains images of places in Montana, Idaho and
		  Washington. The images were likely taken in the 1890s and are primarily of the
		  Missoula, Spokane Falls and Coeur d'Alene areas. Newspaper clippings affixed to
		  the inside cover of the album document a 1,415 mile bicycle trip Otto Schmidt
		  took from Missoula, Montana to Spokane, Washington and back in 1896. Many of
		  the images are quite faded.</p>
