Grace Terrell was a Christian missionary and teacher at a girls' school in Seoul, Korea, from 1931 to 1966. She maintained correspondence with family members, other missionary educators, and students over the course of her career.
The Grace Terrell Papers consist primarily of letters received by Terrell from 1931 to 1966. Terrell received letters from only a handful of people, but the correspondence is relatively comprehensive; for example, she corresponded with fellow missionary Dorothy Ling over the course of twenty years. The content of the letters generally consists of personal information but does occasionally include information on political events, such as the Japanese take-over of Manchuria in the early 1930s. The Terrell Papers also include correspondence with Terrell's daughter-in-law, former students, and other missionaries throughout Korea and China. Because the collection consists almost entirely of incoming letters there is little information in this collection on major events in Korea, such as the Korean War (unofficially from 1950 to1953). The letters are arranged chronologically by sender, and they include a photograph, newspaper clippings, postcards and acupuncture needles.
