            <head>Biography of Otto Sussman</head><p>Otto Sussman (1879-1947) was a mining engineer and was Chairman of the Board of American Metal Company, Ltd. Under Sussman, American Metal became a leading custom smelter and refiner of ores and scraps in the United States. Sussman was also Vice President of U.S. Metals Refining Company and Director of Consolidated Copper Mines Corporation. In 1935, he was President of the Mining and Metallurgical Society of America.</p>

            <head>Scope and Content</head><p>The collection contains a handwritten thesis, in German, by Otto Sussman (1897) on Qualitative Chemical Analysis for his PhD. There are diplomas and photographs of Sussman and family members, and of the Peace River Expedition (British Columbia) searching for copper (1919), and at a chrome refinery in New Jersey. The collection also contains a miner’s helmet, carbide lamp, and Legion of Honor Medal.</p>
