  		<p>Henry Hart Spalding (1839-1898), business owner and operator of Almota, WA, was the
  			son of Henry Harmon Spalding (1803-1874) and Eliza Hart Spalding (1807-1851),
  			pioneer missionaries in the Pacific Northwest. His sons, including Marcus W.
  			Spalding (1897-1975) and Horace H. Spalding (1881-1962), and Frederick Eugene
  			Spalding (1885-1928), were actively engaged in various businesses in Almota.</p>

			<p>This bound volume reflects account activity for a warehouse at Almota, Washington,
				owned by the Spalding family. The name Eugene Spalding appears at the front of the
				volume. The volume was repurposed at a later time as a recipe book, with clippings
				pasted in and accompanying notes. These additions obscure the account information
				recorded on some leaves.</p>
