Biography of Patrick and Nora Ivers

Patrick Ivers was born on May 27, 1950 near Monterey, CA, where he was also raised. He graduated from Arizona State university in 1972 with a BA in English, Secondary Education. Afterwards, he began teaching English at Gila Vista Jr. High School in Yuma, AZ. He also later completed a certification in secondary education mathematics.

Nora Ivers was born on January 28, 1949 in Staten Island, NY, moving around the state during her childhood. She attended Western Connecticut State University eventually graduating in 1971 with a BS in Secondary Education, Social Science. After school, she traveled to Europe, and upon her return decided to pursue a MA in Library Science, graduating in 1973 from Arizona State University. After working in Australia and Venezuela for five years, she accepted a position to teach at Gila Vista Jr. High School, where she and Patrick met and soon married in June 1979.

After teaching in Arizona, Patrick and Nora decided to apply to teach for the Department of Defense Dependent Schools (DoDDS). Patrick was hired to teach in Ankara, Turkey in 1986 and Nora was hired as a film technician for remotely located schools. They then transferred to Comiso, Sicily where Patrick taught and Nora was the school librarian from 1987-1991. Upon the bases closure, they then transferred to Bahrain and after three years decided to leave. Patrick retired from teaching, but Nora continued to work for DoDDS as a librarian. They moved back to Ankara for a year before the base closed and were then transferred to Lajes Field, Azores where Nora worked until 1997, when they left the DoDDS and moved to Laramie, WY. Once in Laramie, they became heavily involved in community service and the University of Wyoming while also continuing to travel and educate.
