Leif Fredrickson attended high school in Missoula, Montana from 1992-1996 and college in New York from 1996-2000, one year of which was spent abroad in London. During high school and college, he was involved in the local Missoula punk scene and had an interest in related counter-cultural phenomena and radical politics. Some publications in this collection were acquired locally in Missoula. Others were acquired when living in New York or London, or were bought at independent bookstores when traveling. Most were ordered through the mail. A few zines from the 1980s were acquired when Fredrickson and his public history class researched the history of music in Missoula.

As of 2024, Fredrickson lives and works as a professor in Missoula, Montana.
