Marc Szeftel was a Russian historian and Vladimir Nabokov's long-time
colleague at Cornell University. Szeftel started teaching at the University of
Washington in 1962. Previously, he taught at Cornell University beginning in
1945. Many scholars believe Szeftel to be the prototype for Nabokov's
protagonist of the novel "Pnin." He died in 1985 in Seattle, Washington.
