Seven, 8x10 black and white; one, 5x7 black and white; and five, 8x10 color prints: 14 total images</p>

    <bioghist encodinganalog="545">
      <p>LeGrand G. Van Uitert was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, in 1922.  He earned a Ph.D. from Pennsylvania State University and worked as a chemist and materials scientist employed in the Basic Research Division of Bell Labs.  He co-invented the first continuous beam optical MASER, now known as a laser.</p>
