         <abstract encodinganalog="5203_">This collection of materials from Howard Chase, the manager of an iron works in Colfax, WA, consists of documents related to the company, as well as research about coal that he conducted during his time at Washington State College, and a small amount of local history material.</abstract>

         <p>Howard Chase, a resident of Colfax, WA, graduated from Washington State College in 1913 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. By 1926, Chase was the manager of the Colfax Iron Works, a company which manufactured and sold metal products for surrounding farms, as well as specialty machining.</p>  
      </bioghist>

         <p>This collection consists of assorted papers, mainly relating to a research study about coal varieties, as well as a small reference notebook with information about products and materials supplied by the Colfax Iron Works. The collection also contains a small folder of Whitman County Defense Council newsletters dating from 1942. The collection also contains designs and sales brochures for the Allen Dense Air Ice Machines.</p>
