      <head>Historical Note</head>
      <p>The Save Our Stations (S.O.S.) Fund was established by Spokane accountant, Ben Harney, in
        an attempt to save the Great Northern and Union Pacific railroad depots in Spokane, which
        were scheduled for demolition in order to clear the Expo ’74 site. Although the organization
        never achieved its goal, it did create public discussion on the issues of historic
        preservation and community heritage.</p>
