      <bioghist encodinganalog="5451_">
    
         <p>Henry F. Canfield was an American Civil War soldier born on May 28, 1843 in  Chardon, Ohio. His parents were Sally Lee and Aaron Burr Canfield. At the age of 19, he enlisted in the 105th Ohio Volunteer Infantry (OVI) and later rose to the rank of corporal. He married his wife, Lucy Strohl, in 1867. They had five children together. Canfield died in 1894 at the age of 50.</p>

         <p>The Henry Canfield Civil War Letters, which date from 1862 through 1865, consists of sixty-four letters Henry wrote home during his time as a soldier in the Civil War, describing his life and thoughts about the war.</p>
