                              <abstract encodinganalog="5203_">The Lulu Thornton Papers consist of two items created and assembled by alumna Lulu Thornton that document her student experience at Oregon Agricultural College (OAC), and training for a career in teaching. Lulu Thornton graduated from OAC in 1895 with a degree in home economics.</abstract>

        <bioghist encodinganalog="5450_"><head>Biographical Note:</head>
                        <p>Born in 1876 in Missouri, Lulu Catherine Thornton graduated from Oregon Agricultural College in 1895 with a degree in Home Economics. In 1903, she married William Isadore Brown and together they raised three sons: Loyde, Virgil, and Vesper. She died in Portland, Oregon in 1945.</p>

This collection is made up of a book of sewing samples compiled by Thornton as a class assignment and a teaching certificate registered by the State of Oregon. The certificate is dated 1895.</p>
