From 1972 until 1984 the Labor Temple Dance Collective (later known as Ellensburg Dance Collective) performed throughout Ellensburg. They drew their name from the studio space in the AFL-CIO Labor Temple at 213 W. 3rd Street in Ellensburg. They were allowed to use the space in exchange for maintaining the building and setting up for the once a month meetings of the Union. They hosted a weekly open mic night called Magic Theatre.
An early prospectus stated their mission:"The Labor Temple Dance Collective is basically a group of people who love to dance and feel dance to be a valuable exercise and experience for the body, mind, and spirit...Anyone interested in creation and/or performing dance or helping in any way can come down to the studio and talk to us. One of our aims is to create an outlet for the many creative people in this valley."
Beverly Ormbrek, Christie Brown, Jan Meyer, Ren (Corky) Albright, Julie Prather, and Millie West were founders of the Labor Temple Dance Collective.
Collection consists of two scrapbooks and one chapbook by Jampa Dorje documenting the activities of the collective. Includes photographs, programs, newspaper clippings, and hand written notes about performances.
