  		<p>Frederick Albert Blackwell moved to northern Idaho in 1902, where he was active in milling and mining and soon owned and operated the Coeur d'Alene &amp; Spokane Railroad. Circa 1904-1910 he created two photo albums, one personal and one for business promotional purposes. </p>
  		<p>The albums remained in the family, and in 1976 his great grandson Frederick Warn Blackwell received a grant through the Washington State Historians' Bicentennial Project to create slide sets from the albums. </p>

	 	<p>This slide collection, created in 1976, reproduces 181  life and business photographs of Northern Idaho in 1904-1910. A print index to individual images, created at the time the slides were made, accompanied the collection.</p>

	 	<p> Slides are in original order, unlabeled, but a print index accompanies them.   There are eight series of images, as follows: Cities and Civic Events (32 slides); Lakes and Rivers (50 slides); Steamers, Boats (12 slides); Railroads (55 slides); Timber in Pend Oreille and Spirit Lake Country (12 slides); Logging (6 slides); Sawmills (8 slides); Miscellaneous (8 slides). </p>
