    <scopecontent encodinganalog="description">
      <p>The Ralph D. and Ruth Thomson papers (1956-1972) center around the Golden Spike Railroad Centennial Celebration in 1969.  The collection includes correspondence, invitations, name tags, pamphlets, and publications regarding the celebration, as well as the Thomson's personal correspondence.  Ralph Thomson (1906-1992) received his M.S. degree in library science from the University of Southern California in 1950 and was the director of the Marriott Library from 1962-1971.  Ruth Thomson (1909-1995) received her B.S. degree in library science from the University of Southern California in 1940.  She then went on to serve as a librarian at many Salt Lake County libraries and schools.</p>
