The American Studies department was created at the University of Oregon in 1984. The department offered a major and minor in American Studies until 1991 when the department disbanded.

Collection includes course development information, major/minor proposals and requirements, course descriptions, correspondence, memoranda, project files, American Studies Policy Advisory Committee and Council reports, convocation, articles, and meeting and conference documents from 1984 to 1991.
