Barbara Bickmore (1927-2015) was an American author who began her professional writing
career as a fiction novelist in Oregon. Bickmore moved to Oregon in 1973 after teaching
high school English in New York for nearly 20 years. While in Oregon, she started a
small farm, opened a yarn shop, and eventually taught writing at the University of
Oregon for two years. Bickmore published her first book in 1986, and was offered a
contract for two more in 1988. She accepted the offer, and later moved to a small
village in Mexico where she wrote six of her nine best-selling novels. Her books have
sold in 22 countries and have been published in 16 different languages. Bickmore died in
Anacortes, Washington in 2015.
