  		<p>Katherine Crystal Ross (later Howell) was employed at Washington State College in 1919-1920 as an Assistant Professor and acting Head of Physical Education for Women.  She attended Western Michigan University (then the Western State Normal School) in Kalamazoo, MI, from 1913-1916, and in the summers there was employed as "playground director" for the Normal School's Physical Education program.</p>

	 	<p>The album contains 81 labeled black and white photographs of children playing in Kalamazoo, MI school or city playgrounds,  as well as students enrolled in a Western Michigan University college teacher's program. </p>
