The photographs in this collection document the family lineage and other related events in the life of Dr. John Dixon. The photographs show little of Dr. Dixon's childhood but rather document his early life in the education system and later his involvement as the Dean of the University of Utah Medical School. The images are consistent through the span of several decades and are quite comprehensive. The black and white and color images are the originals and are in excellent condition.

He has received honors from the University of Utah School of Medicine Alumni, American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery, Utah Hospital Association, Society of American Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Surgeons and the Utah State Medical Association, and a resolution of commendation from the Utah State Legislature.
Professor Dixon, who has taught laser courses and techniques to many other professionals, is characterized as sensitive, empathetic and compassionate with patients as well as co-workers and colleagues. A colleague wrote, "The University's Medical Center…stands as a monument to his vision and to his commitment to train superbly well-qualified health practitioners, and to provide Utah and citizens of adjacent states the highest quality health care at the lowest possible cost."
