      <abstract encodinganalog="5203_">The Abraham Hoagland Cannon journals [copies](1879-1895) consist of nineteen volumes which outline details about LDS Church council meetings and his service as a apostle, political meetings, and other important issues. He recorded business ventures which included stationary and furniture stores, real estate, mining, banking, railroads, and sugar manufacturing. Polygamy is a major theme throughout his journals as well. No photocopies can be made.</abstract>

      <p>Abraham Hoagland Cannon (1859-1896), son of George Q. Cannon and Elizabeth Hoagland, was born 12 March 1859 in Salt Lake City, Utah. He served as an Apostle in the LDS church from 1889 until his death. He also was a very successful busines man and had directorial positions with many organiztions, including: the "Deseret News," Bullion-Beck mining company, the State Bank of Utah, the Utah Loan and Trust Co., Z.C.M.I., George Q. Cannon &amp; Sons Co., Co-operative Furniture Co.,and the Salt Lake Chamber of Commerce. Abraham died on 19 July 1896 at his residence in Salt Lake City, after having had surgery, which was prompted due to serious illness with symptoms of servere headaches and ear troubles.</p>

      <p>The journal begins 21 October 1879 when Abraham Hoagland Cannon left on his mission to Europe for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, and ends 31 December 1895, six and a half months before his death.</p>
      <p> Abraham made daily entries in his journal, which give detailed descriptions of places he saw and events he noted. Also made mention of in his journal are church activities and summaries of sermons, quorum meetings, conferences, and other important events in which he participated. Also mentioned in the journal are some of the events and circumstances relating to his involvement in polygamy.</p>
