The Daughters of the Pioneers of Washington was founded on November 27, 1911, and incorporated on April 20, 1918. Its purpose is to "preserve the history and perpetuate the sentiment relating to pioneer days in the State of Washington." The group preserves historical sites, documents, records, and relics. Members consist of female descendents of pioneers who established their residence in Washington prior to the year 1870, or in Oregon prior to the year 1853. In 1936 seven chapters combined into The State Association of the Daughters of the Pioneers of Washington. This new group was incorporated in 1937.
