Rollin Howell was one of the youngest of nine children born to George and Julietta Howell. George was born in the province of Nova Scotia in April 1845. He was in the lumber business in Wisconsin but moved to Washington and homesteaded on government land three miles east of Albion in 1878. According to the Whitman county directory, he was president of the Guy Cooperative Association and an owner of interest in the Farmer’s Meat Association in 1904. One of his elder sons, George M., was proprietor of the Albion Hotel and owned an implement store in Albion ca. 1910.
