The Washington state Department of Archaeology and Historic Preservation (DAHP) requires forms of mitigation when damage is done to buildings qualifying as historic (generally over 50 years in age). For demolition of the larger or more significant WSU buildings, that usually falls in the middle of three categories, satisfied by an in-depth report on the history and significance of the structure (Level II Mitigation Documentation). Archival copies of those reports are retained at DAHP, at WSU Facilities, and MASC holds some.
Johnson Hall opened in 1961, and was razed in 2022, and was the central campus agricultural building during that time, located at the NE corner of Stadium Way and Wilson Road.
Kruegel Hall opened in 1956 as part of a pair of dormitories, the other being McAllister Hall, connected by a lounge space informally known as KMac. They stopped being dormitories in 1987 and were converted to other uses. McAllister was torn down in 2015, and Kruegel and KMac in 2024-2025. They were located southeast of Stadium Way, a little east of Nevada St.
The collection holds a flashdrive and printouts of a 2022 DAHP Mitigation Johnson Hall report, followed by a CD and printouts and photo reprints from a 2026 DAHP Mitigation Kreugel Hall report.
Reports are alphabetical by building name.
The digital Johnson Hall materials have been copied and retained in MASC’s archival storage.

Ann Sharley of Architectural History and Archaeology LLC, Spokane, donated the Johnson Hall material to the Washington State University Libraries on October 12, 2022, where it was retained as UA2022-11. She donated the Kruegel Hall materials on June 11, 2026, and those were processed immediately without an accession number.
As WSU Facilities has future mitigation reports conducted, they are expected to be added to this collection.
University Archivist Mark O’English processed this collection in June 2026. The Johnson Hall materials had come in digital format and were printed at that time, and the digital portions of all materials are retained in MASC’s archival storage.
