The General Federation of Women's Clubs is an international organization dedicated to volunteer service and community improvement. The Federation was founded in 1890 by Jane Croly, a professional journalist. After being denied entrance to an all male press party, Croly founded her own women's club called Sorosis. On the Sorosis' 21st anniversary in 1889, Croly invited women's clubs throughout the U.S. to New York City to attend a convention. On April 24, 1890, 63 clubs ratified the Generation Federation of Women's Clubs constitution and officially formed the group.
