The collection contains manuscripts, published articles, notes, correspondence, and
scrapbooks relating primarily to Rice’s teaching of industrial arts at both the high
school and college level. A bound volume titled “Chronology of a Fifty-Year Career
in Industrial Education” begins in 1911 and is a scrapbook of letters, notes, and
newspaper articles. Another bound volume, “Chronology of Construction of the ‘Arts’
Building,” contains miscellaneous documents dating from about 1944 to 1950; it is
supplemented by 34 photographs of the original teaching areas in the Industrial Arts
Department at WWU. Also available are several folders of notes, architectural plans
of WWU facilities, and other materials used in teaching, as well as one folder
containing Rice’s vita and lists of publications.
