Feminist activist, attorney, author. Founder and first Executive Director of Northwest Women's Law Center, Seattle, 1978-1980. A practicing attorney with emphasis on family law and women's rights, Gillespie became an expert on battered women and authored a book, "Justifiable Homicide," in 1989. She was at work on a book on pornography and violence at the time of her death from cancer in early 1993 in Seattle.

Notes, legal case files, legislation, incoming letters, subject series, and other records related to her defense of battered women, to research for her book and her projected books, and to her involvement in feminist causes; ca. 1979-1992.
