Frank C. Hirahara (1926-2006) was born in Yakima, Washington. Under Executive Order
9066, he was imprisoned with his family due to their Japanese ancestry from 1942 to
1945 at the Heart Mountain Relocation Center in Wyoming. Frank and his father,
George Hirahara, took thousands of pictures documenting life at Heart Mountain.
Frank Hirahara left the Heart Mountain Relocation Center in January 1945 to attend
Washington State College (now Washington State University) and received his degree
in Electrical Engineering in 1948. He eventually moved his family to Anaheim,
California and worked for Rockwell International on many programs, including the
Apollo, Space Shuttle, Skylab, and Star Wars projects and retired in 1988.
